Weekend wrap-up and FMM:

I've been working on a post about the calorie discussion for a few days now. I've about given up on it though because I've been having some trouble with getting a picture (graph) I wanted to share to save so I can upload it. So frustrating when things don't work the way you want them to. I won't have time to work on the post for another few days so we'll see if it gets done at this point.

This weekend was the last weekend of hubs three week vacation.  We spent Saturday with his parents who traveled up here to see us (the grandkids really) and yesterday we ran errands. We finished up the weekend with family movie night. Back to the grind today. Not yet sure how I'm feeling about it. Was great having hubs home with me for three weeks. We (he) got a number of things done around the house yet there were other things that are still on the to-do list. Although, does that list ever really go away?

I'm playing along with Kenlie's FMM today. Has been while, thought it might be fun to join in again.

 Almost Spring

1. What do you love most about Spring?  I love the melting snow, the longer days, and the first blooms to peak through the ground.
2. If you’re lucky enough to have a Spring Break, what will you do to enjoy it? No spring break here. Too old.
3. What is your favorite flower? Lilacs!
4. Do you have a garden?  If so, what do you grow?  I have a garden in my yard. Is it my garden though? No. My father gardens. He grows all sorts of flowers and vegetables. I didn't inherit the green thumb.
5. Share one thing that you hope to accomplish during Spring.  My goal right now is to continue on with the weight loss. It's the only thing I have in my sights. I am more focused than ever and everything else is just background noise.
6. Do you do Spring cleaning?  Yes. I'm participating in a mother's club yard sale next month and then we plan on having our own home yard sale to get rid of everything else that's laying around. All this yard sale prep is helping with getting everything cleaned and organized.
7. What is your weather *really* like right now? {Just b/c it’s almost Spring, doesn’t mean that it feels like it for some of you.}  It was warmer over the weekend (mid 40's to 50) but this morning is very cold.
8. Share one photo that you’ve taken during the month of March.   I haven't taken many. Just from bowling the other day with the grandparents. The camera is still in the car.
9. What’s your favorite thing to do on a sunny afternoon?  It's sunny today. Cold though. When it's sunny and warmer, I love being outside taking in the sunshine and breathing the fresh air. On days like today though, I just like driving around thinking about spring and summer.
10. If you could spend the day doing anything in your city, what would you do?  Harbor Cruise. I love being on the water.

I hope you'll play along too!

FMM: The Last Thing

Didn't think I was going to have time to write anything today. We're getting ready for a small roadtrip, but had to bring my little guy to the doc to make sure he's not getting yet another ear infection.

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!
FMM: The Last Thing
1) What is the title of the last book you read?  Water For Elephants.
2) What is the last movie you saw in a theater? Cars 2 with the kiddos. I usually can't go to the movies. I've been known to have panic attacks while in there. It's the only place that that happens. Well, there and an airplane. Anyway, I was perfectly fine and am looking forward to going to another movie again with just the hubs.
3) Briefly describe the last person you saw today.  Let's make that people...would be my hubs and the boys....they were running out to the car to bring the little one to the doctor's office. Not sure why my eldest wanted to go along for the ride?
4) Which store did you most recently shop in?  The Disney Store. Popped in right after I went to The Children's Place
5) Who’s the last person you spoke to over the phone? Lisa at the doctor's office.
6) Where’s the last place you vacationed? Disney World. On our way for a staycation today though. :D
7) When was the last time you kissed someone of the opposite sex?  Last night
8) What’s the last thing that made you laugh?  Hubs said something that made me chuckle. I can't remember (honestly. Remember, forgetting is what I do)
9) What’s the latest app that you downloaded on your phone? Angry Birds Seasons
10)  What’s the last kind thing you did for someone?  Great. Now you got me. I can't think of anything. Now I will have to go do a good-deed. :D
Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!  I hope you like them!  If you have an idea for FMM, please e-mail me, and it could be featured!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments!

FMM: Defining Moments

Blogger was driving me nuts! I've been trying to post but was having problems. Now I'll have to save my first topic for tomorrow.
If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. FMM: Defining Moments
Was there a defining moment in which you realized that you needed to lose weight?  If so, will you elaborate? (If you experienced this moment in some other area of your life, please feel free to share that too!)

Oh how I wish I could say my "moment" happened during one of the following experiences - but it didn't.
1. How about the times in High School that I was made fun of hearing things like "boom baba boom" while I was walking down the hall.
2. Or when some guy told me he wanted to date me in the worst way. Loved so much about me but couldn't get past the fat.
3. And when I needed a lap-belt extension on a flight and fought tears the whole time we were in the air.
4. Then there was the time I thought I was going to break a seat in a stadium...it snapped but didn't completely break. I just squatted on the seat til the concert began.
5. or the time when....well, you get the idea.
Needless to say it hasn't been an easy road for me. I've been heavy my whole entire life. I've started and stopped so many diets and "lifestyle changes" it's not even funny. Alas, here I am.
What started it this time? Well, my diagnosis really. You can read about it here and the second part here...but to sum it all up...knowing that I may have a Cancer rap in my future, I'd like to be in the best possible condition I can be in order to really beat this thing. That and clearly I want to see my kids grow up. It's all I think about really. So maybe I am doing this more for them than anything else. Maybe having Cancer looking down at me everyday is the best thing that's happened to me? Well, not the best thing, but you know what I mean.
This is my reality. It's something I have to keep in the forefront of my mind every single day. And yet I can't let it control me. It's a fine balance. I have a positive outlook on life. I'm trying my best to get into shape and make the most of my life...enjoy the kids and my time. I've learned that life really is precious and you just never know when your time is going to be up. I'm now doing what I can to make sure I don't leave this Earth before my time but if I do then I know I have given it my all and won't have any regrets.

Fresh Start

Not looking back to the weekend. I've brushed myself off and am now holding my head high. This week is about starting fresh. I plan on hitting the gym hard, being diligent with my calorie counting and logging my food...I'm pretty good with keeping a log anyway, but I could tighten it up a bit.

Now, onto FMM...

Friend Makin’ Mondays is always fun, but having so much interaction last week made it awesome! Don’t you think?  So let’s get creative with our answers again this week and make it even better than last week! =)
If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. FMM: What’s in Your Fridge?

      1. List a few common items that can always be found in your fridge.  Milk, yogurt, cheese and condiments
      2. What kind of milk do you drink? Organic skim milk or Almond Milk
      3. Do you prefer fresh or frozen vegetables? Fresh, of course. I have a few staples in the freezer for "emergencies"
      4. What do you currently have to drink in the fridge? Water is "on" the fridge. Milk, and some lemonade
      5. How often do you clean out your refrigerator? You're supposed to clean out the fridge? ;-)  Ours gets cleaned out on it's own. If not, I try to tidy up in there before I hit the grocery store.
      6. What’s the healthiest thing in it right now? Salad mix, snow peas, peppers
      7. What’s the most unhealthy thing in it right now? St. Brendan's Irish Creme. It's from Christmas time...the only time I ever drink Irish Creme.
      8. What do you wish you had in it that you don’t have now? Strawberries. Guess what I'll be picking up today?
      9. How often do you shop for groceries? A few times a week. I do a "major" shop once a week or every 10 days and then I pick up items that I wouldn't normally pick up when I do my major shop...in other words, I shop around.
      10. What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge right now? Anise. I'm not a big fan. Hubs likes it. He picked it up.

Last week before summer

Starting the last week of school. We had a ton of snow this last winter so the kids get to stay in the class for an extra week to make up those days. Thankfully it hasn't been too hot up here in New England.  Summer vacation will start Thursday around noon time. I'm actually looking forward to not having to deal with the routine for a while.
As far as my mood?  Well,  I am feeling a bit better today. I had a decent weekend too. Things are looking up. Now if I can get the scale to look down, all will be right with the world.
Now that I'm starting to feel a bit better mentally, I should be able to get back on track. May take until next week to notice a change though...I went out to lunch with the hubs this afternoon. Salt-city!  It was worth it though.
And now it's time for Friend Makin' Monday....
If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. FMM: Yes or No?
  1. Do you use coupons? No, not really. I honestly don't have the patience to be flipping through papers and online to find them.
  2. Do you like football? Yes!!!! I've only been on the New England Patriots season ticket waiting list for 10 YEARS!!!!  Our number just came up. Then the boiler broke in the house. Guess who can't afford the tickets this year?  Good thing they let you wait one more round!
  3. Are you in a relationship? Yes!  Happily Married for almost 10 years!
  4. Is your phone always within arm’s reach? No. Half the time I can't find the darn thing. And the other half it's off.
  5. Do you like thunderstorms?  Yes
  6. Can you cook? Can I? Yes. A little. Do I enjoy it? NO!
  7. Are you – or have you – lost weight? Yes....30.1 pounds and counting...
  8. Do you know how to read a map? Yes!
  9. Do you wear makeup? No. I am allergic to it. I only wear occasionally.
  10. Do you read regularly? Yes and no. When I get on a reading kick, I will read a lot. Then I stop for a while and it'll feel like forever before I pick something up to read.
  11. Are you publicly affectionate? No!  I hate it!  (Sorry honey!)
  12. Do you like picnics? Yes!
  13. Do you have a/c? Yes! Can't live without it!
  14. Have you ever been out of the country? Yes.
  15. Do you know how to ride a bicycle? Yes. Can't wait to get back on one again. Soon. Very soon.
Okay, now it’s your turn to answer the questions! And these are easy, right?  Don’t forget to come back and link up!  And have a happy Monday! =)

Doldrums

I'm in a funk. Seriously. I feel like I am having an out of body (and mind) experience. It's been going on since late last week. I am having a hard time shaking it off. At first I thought it was just "that time" but "that's" passed (sorry if it's TMI) and I've still got the blahs. I thought getting into the gym would help. Nope. I felt worse. But more in a physical way. I had a rush of nausea and dizziness doing my workout today. It lasted til a few hours afterwards.

I have a million things I want to write about, but I can't seem to muster up the energy to do so.

It's a good thing it's FMM!!!

Now it’s Monday which means it’s time for FMM! If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. FMM: If you lived in a movie, which one would it be?  And which character would you play?
This is a tough one. I would like to put more thought into it but it's late and I need to catch some zzzzz's.  Should have done this earlier today, if only I realized it was Monday. :D
I was trying to think of a feel-good kind of movie. A chick-flick, if you will. Those are the kinds of movies I go for. You know, like Steel Magnolias where you laugh and cry and laugh some more. I thought about all of my "all time favorites" like The Wizard of Oz and Stand by Me. I wouldn't want to live in any of those movies though....
Then it hit me! I would want to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid?  Why? Well, first of all she gets the guy. But the main reason is her voice. I love singing. Absolutely love to sing!  I just with I had the voice to sing. No worries. I know I suck and won't be on the next season of American Idol.
I'm lucky though. I have the guy. He treats me like a princess everyday. I'll take that over the voice any day!

FMM: Why Do You Blog?

Another round of Friend Makin' Mondays!  I really like this question...let's see what I come up with for an answer....hrm....

Friend Makin’ Mondays: Why Do You Blog?

by KENLIE on JUNE 6, 2011
It’s Monday again, which means it’s time for Friend Makin’ Mondays!  This week, I’m going to ask a common question that will probably yield different answers from each of us!
If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

FMM: Why Do You Blog?
I'm not sure I would call myself a blogger. I come here to journal a bit about my ups and downs on this journey. There are a million-and-one things I would like to talk about but when I actually sit down to write a post I can never seem to find the words for what I really want to talk about so I rant about other stuff.

Anyway, I started a blog (which has been taken down) a while back about the triumphs and frustrations of being a Mom. I started that particular blog the day my eldest started pre-school. I soon found it too difficult to write personal stuff about my son online so I stopped.

Then I had a scrapbooking blog with my scrappy girlfriends. We'd go on there to post our latest projects as well as offer up challenges to one another. That was a fun way to make sure time was made for myself so I could do the one thing I love doing the most (aside from spending time with the kids); scrapbooking about the kids. Unfortunately, we got away from blogging there. I think life just got in the way for all of us. I miss that blog. Maybe we should think about getting back into it...hrm....

And that brings me back to here. I started writing here more often after I started working with a personal trainer. So many of my friends were asking me how things were going. One asked me if it was OK to keep asking me. That's when I thought it might be a good thing to give this 'blogging' thing one last try. And here I am.

-------
And to the business of the day. I took the weekend off from the gym and the computer. I needed to get ready for a yard sale which took place yesterday. I was pleased with the amount we sold, but there is still a ton of stuff left over. I need to sift through everything and see what I can put up on e-bay (that'll be a new endeavor-I'm great with buying on e-bay but am a bit intimidated by the selling thing) and what I can put on Craig's list.

Today was back in the gym. I got 10 minutes on the bike (would have loved to do more but I didn't make it to the gym in time) and an hour of personal training. We did a full-body workout today. I love seeing how much stronger I am getting!  For instance, I'm up to doing 50 pounds, 12 reps (3 sets) of the dead lifts. They are probably one of my favorite exercises!  I can feel my butt shrinking with each repetition!

The plan for the rest of the week is as follows:
Tomorrow I'm going to walk outside for my cardio. I was originally planning on going to the gym with the kids in tow so my littlest guy could get used to being in the nursery, but the weather is supposed to change drastically later in the week. I think tomorrow is going to be the only viable day for an outside gig.

Wednesday will be a personal training session. Need to talk to my father about watching the boys a little earlier than usual so I can get that 20-30 mins of cardio in before the training session.

Thursday and Friday is still up for discussion with Dorothy (my new trainer). She is going to work on getting some workout instructions ready for me.

I thought if I put my intentions here, I am more likely to follow through. No more slacking off for me!  I need to get back into my 3-4 day gym routine!

What's your week looking like?

ETA:
I just remembered that tomorrow is "walk to school day" so I will most certainly be walking outside!

Happy Memorial Day

First and foremost I'd like to thank all the brave men and women (and of course their families) who are serving as well as those who have served our country to protect our freedom.

This is a photo of my late grandfather, Walter J. Borowski. He served in the US Army as a Ranger. He really was a true American Hero. If you care to Google his name, you'll find many articles written about him and his efforts during WWII. It is because of people like my grandfather that we are able to enjoy our day-to-day freedoms. Have you thanked a Vet today?

Now onto our regularly scheduled FMM...

Today's FMM f All The Weigh is really going to make me and you think about things. So get ready to have a little fun!

FMM: ABC's of Me

Here's how it works...you'll choose topics about yourself, your likes, dislikes, etc.  according to each letter in the alphabet, and share a little with us. Oh shhh...you know you love it. ;)

Apples. I love them and hate them all at the same time!  I have to have them at room temperature because cold ones hurt my teeth (strange, I know). I hate them because they will sometimes give me heartburn and a tummy-ache.

Bon Jovi - been listening to them since I was in the 6th grade!  Never heard a song from them I didn't like.

Children. I have 2 of them. They are the light of my life.

Dusting. I hate to do it. Always makes me sneeze.

Exercise - something I have always had a love/hate relationship with. I'm learning that I love it a lot more than hating it these days though!  :)

Football!  Huge Patriots fan right here. Everyone knows not to call me on Sunday's during football season. I don't answer the phone!

Garlic goes into practically everything I make.

Health. You never really realize how important your health is until you are staring at something that is lurking to take it away.

Icing. I recently took classes for cake decorating. It's fast becoming one of my favorite hobbies. Although eating the icing probably isn't good for my calorie budget.

Jenn with 2 n's. I know it drives people crazy with "us Jenn's" do that. I started doing that when I was at weight watchers summer camp the year before I started high school. One of the girls at the camp would write my name that way. I liked it because it differentiated me from the 5 other Jen's that were in my class. My Mom still hasn't caught on that I'm using 2 n's.

Kids. I love them. See the letter C

Laughter - there is no better medicine.

Mornings. HATE 'em.

Night owl

Oprah. I'm probably one of the only few on the planet who isn't a huge fan. I like her enough. Just never really watched her show.

Peas - still don't eat them.

Queen of eye rolling. (just as my mom!)

Relaxation - never enough time for that, if you as me.

Saturday is my favorite day of the week.

Travel. I love travel. Never enough time or money though.

Umbrella. I always forget it in the car or in the garage.

Vests - other than bullet proof ones, I don't understand the reason to wear one.

Water. I never seem to drink enough.

X-ray -I've had far too many of them this year. I'm starting to glow green.

Young - I do look young for my age. I always thank my Polish ancestry for that and hope to keep it when the weight is gone.

Zoo - Would love to take the kids to The Bronx Zoo this year.
